About Sherry & Shel Larkby, Brokers Real Estate
Brokers Real Estate was founded in 1993 by Sherry and Shel Larkby, a husband and wife team married over 40 years. Sherry began her uninterrupted real estate career in 1978 in Geneva, Illinois, and was one of the top candidates for Rookie of the Year in a 31 office chain. From St. Charles, Illinois, Sherry and Shel moved to Traverse City, Michigan, where they worked for Real Estate One until their arrival on Hilton Head in 1991.
They have three adult sons. Chip, the eldest, is also a broker at Brokers Real Estate, and Jon, the youngest, recently joined them as a licensed administrative assistant.
Chip and his wife Sarah, have two sons, 4 and 2. Chris, their middle son, and his wife Carmela also have two sons, 4 and 2.
Originally a Ma and Pa real estate company, they opened their company to control the quality of services delivered to their clients. They outgrew their first offices, then their second. In late 2007, they decided to build a new office and take on a few new agents upon completion. The building was designed by one of the area’s most talented architects, Tom Parker. Plans of classic Charleston gardens drawing butterflies, hummingbirds and songbirds with colorful flowers and fragrance are underway, sure to make their offices one of the most charming in the Lowcountry. Real estate was a natural for Sherry and Shel who personally did rehabs on their personal and investment properties over the years. These are hands-on people with valuable experience in construction, remodeling, decorating, staging, financing, marketing, and investments – virtually all aspects of residential real estate as they affect buyers and sellers. Survivors of many past recessions, they have a wealth of experience shared by only a small number of agents and brokers.
Relative newcomers to the Beaufort market, Sherry, Shel, and Chip are individually in the top 100 agents of the Beaufort MLS for 2007. They have consistently earned sales awards in the Hilton Head market. Nan Verbrigghe, a new agent covering the Beaufort market, is well on her way to earning top sales awards starting with her first sale in her first month.
Roman Udvornocky, office manager, Colin Kelly, administrative assistant, provide a top notch support team, and assist with intensive training one-on-one and in small, structured, hands-on groups, providing the necessary skills new agents need for a quick start. New agents are encouraged to work from the office, in order to be exposed to the highest level of instruction on a day-to-day basis.
